Temporary Business Visa (Non‑B) FAQ

Popular Questions "Business Visiting Visa (Non-B)" B2 Applied from Abroad

It is a visa for foreigners who wish to enter Thailand temporarily to conduct business, attend meetings, hold trade negotiations or make study visits, as part of coordination between a company abroad and a partner company in Thailand.

Absolutely not. The B2 visa is issued for 'temporary business visits' only. If a foreigner wishes to work in a regular job, take up a position or receive a salary from a company in Thailand, they must apply for a Non-B Employment visa and obtain a separate Work Permit.

It is simple to remember: the Business Visiting (B2) visa is for short trips to attend meetings or make study visits; it requires no Work Permit and no 4:1 ratio of Thai employees. The Employment visa is for full-time employees who stay for a year or more and must obtain a Work Permit in Thailand.

For urgent, essential technical work, such as repairing machinery or installing a system over a short period of no more than 15 days, the law allows you to file a 'notification of essential and urgent work' (WP-10). However, for the smoothest passage through immigration, holding a Non-B B2 visa as well is the safest option.

It can be used as a supporting document. A foreign company director who flies in on a Non-B B2 visa to sign bank account opening documents or set up a company can present this visa together with the invitation letter to confirm the purpose of the visit to the bank.

Many countries have now switched 100% to the Thai E-Visa (Online) system. Applicants simply fill in their details, upload their document files and pay online. Once approved, you receive the E-Visa by email and can print it out to use for travel, without having to send your passport to the embassy.

Most Royal Thai Embassies take around 5 - 10 working days as standard, counted from the date the system receives a complete set of documents. To be safe, we recommend applying at least 3-4 weeks before your travel date.

No. Royal Thai Embassies have a strict rule that visa fees are not refunded under any circumstances. If your case is rejected (Reject), you lose the fee and must start a new application from scratch. Before paying, therefore, it is wise to have ethaivisa carefully screen your documents first.

Yes, but the foreigner must attach valid proof of their right to stay in that country, such as an entry stamp, a hotel booking or immigration documents, to confirm that they are genuinely in that country when submitting the application online.

The 'formal Letter of Invitation' on the Thai company's letterhead. It must clearly state the foreigner's name, the purpose of the meeting, the schedule and the length of stay, and be signed by a director and stamped with the company seal.

No. The BT.32 form (formerly TT.3) is an advance employment document only for those who will be obtaining a long-term Work Permit. For B2 (Business Visiting), an invitation letter and the Thai company's registration documents are sufficient.

The immigration office and embassies require corporate registration documents to be no more than 6 months old, counted from the date the latest copy was issued. Anything older will be rejected by the system immediately.

Yes, but it must attach other evidence of genuine business activity instead, such as the company's Bank Statement, past PP.30 tax receipts, or business sales contracts with partners, to demonstrate its credibility to the embassy.

Yes, they are essential. The embassy uses the return flight booking and proof of accommodation in Thailand to check that the travel dates match those stated in the company's invitation letter.

The Single Entry visa costs 80 USD, allows one entry into Thailand and is valid for 3 months. The Multiple Entry visa costs 200 USD and allows unlimited entries into and exits from Thailand for a full 1 year.

You will be permitted to stay in Thailand for a maximum of 90 days from the date of entry.

It is the 'expiry date of the visa itself' (Visa Validity). It means the foreigner must enter Thailand 'before' the date shown in this field. If you arrive after that date, the visa is void and cannot be used.

No. Although the visa is valid for 1 year, the law permits a stay in Thailand of no more than 90 days per entry. Once the 90 days are up, the foreigner must leave the country (Border Run) and re-enter to reset a further 90 days.

Yes. Royal Thai Embassies in some countries offer a 3-year business visa (fee 10,000 THB) for businesspeople who need to travel to Thailand frequently for trade over the long term. The permitted stay is still limited to no more than 90 days per entry.

Normally, a B2 visa cannot be extended in Thailand, and the foreigner must leave the country. The exception is an urgent business necessity, where the Thai company can issue a supporting letter to request a temporary extension from the immigration office. Such extensions are usually for no more than 30 days and are considered case by case.

No. To hire a foreigner as a permanent employee, you must obtain a Non-B Employment visa only, because the immigration office will check the E-VISA you received to see whether it is the correct category. We recommend leaving the country to reset with a new visa, or contacting ETHAIVISA to plan and find the correct application route.

No. The Dependent Visa (Non-O Dependent) is issued only to the families of long-term work visa holders (Non-B Employment). For short business visits, family members must apply for Tourist Visas separately.

No, because this visa type only permits a stay of up to exactly 90 days per entry (and you will usually leave before the period ends). The 90-Day Reporting obligation applies only to those permitted to stay for longer than 90 days.

If you hold a Single Entry visa: leaving without a Re-entry Permit will void the visa immediately; if you intend to return, you must obtain a Re-entry Permit in advance. If you hold a Multiple Entry visa: you can travel in and out freely without a Re-entry Permit, as the entry rights are already included in the visa.

Because each Royal Thai Embassy in each country has its own 'sub-criteria' in the online system, and they are not the same at all. Some ask to see the Thai company's tax documents in great detail; others are strict about the wording of the invitation letter. If the information entered does not match the attachments, the system will reject it immediately. Choosing ethaivisa, whose team monitors the system and prepares a document set to match each embassy's standards, is therefore the most effective way to minimise the risk of a visa refusal.
